The Clubhouse Club

A halved club sandwich with toothpicks on a plate

A club sandwich is the clubhouse standard for a reason. It is easy to make, easy to carry, and it holds up on the way to the next tee. This version keeps it classic and does the small things right.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices white or sourdough bread
  • 6 oz sliced roast turkey
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked until crisp
  • 4 slices ripe tomato
  • 4 leaves crisp lettuce
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Toast all six slices of bread until golden, then let them cool for a minute so they stay crisp.
  2. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice. Salt and pepper the tomato slices lightly.
  3. Build the first layer: bread, turkey, lettuce. Add a second slice of bread, then bacon and tomato.
  4. Top with the last slice of bread, mayonnaise side down. Press gently.
  5. Push toothpicks through each quarter to hold it together, then cut diagonally into quarters.

Making it ahead for the turn? Keep the tomato separate until you assemble it, then wrap each sandwich tightly in parchment.
